The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is a bold new model unlike any other you’ve seen before. It’s the first step toward months, even years, of electric Volkswagen vehicles rolling out onto the automotive market.

The Volkswagen ID.4, in particular, is expected in showrooms by the end of this year, and there is also the option to build and reserve your own now at Heritage Volkswagen Owings Mills

The Electricity

Not only is this model completely new, but the fact that it is a rear-wheel-drive SUV is huge. Efficiency is no longer reserved for the most compact models. You can make a real change to your everyday fuel consumption without sacrificing a thing.

The Volkswagen ID.4 has an 82 kWh battery that can power it up to 250 miles between charges. The battery can be charged at home on 110- or 240-volt connections, but it is also compatible with DC fast charging.

Its overall output is 201 horsepower, but the upcoming all-wheel-drive version will produce 302 horsepower. It can tow up to 2,700 lb.

The Technology

With a touchscreen and voice-controlled central hub, you can adjust features like navigation, climate control, and entertainment with ease. It comes with a 10-inch screen, but you can also upgrade to the 12-inch as part of the Statement Package.

Navigation is standard on both, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Three advanced trim options will be available: base, Pro and 1st Edition. Many standard and available driver assistance features come with the VW ID.4:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode
